At Rise Above Early Learning Center, we believe the outdoors is a classroom. Not a break from learning. Not a reward after the real work is done. A genuine part of our early childhood curriculum, where children explore, investigate, build, and grow.
That belief is what is driving our upcoming Playground Revitalization Workday, and we want you to be part of it.
Here is the vision: we are transforming our outdoor space from a traditional playground into a nature-rich environment that invites children to learn the way they learn best. Think less plastic equipment, more purposeful play. Here is what we are planning:
Greenery and natural elements. We want the space to feel like a park: grass, plants, and natural textures that connect children to the living world around them.
A mud kitchen. One of the most powerful tools in a Reggio-inspired outdoor space, a mud kitchen invites children to pour, mix, measure, and create. It is science, math, and imaginative play all at once.
Loose parts. Pots, pans, and open-ended materials that children can combine, reconfigure, and use in any way their imagination allows.
A reimagined play structure. The wooden house on our playground is getting a full update, built to become whatever our children need it to be: a restaurant, a gas station, a rocket ship, a home.
This transformation matters because children learn deeply when they are given the space to move, explore, and lead their own play. An outdoor classroom is not just a nice addition; it is an extension of everything we do inside our walls.
On Saturday, May 2nd, our Parent Committee is gathering to make this happen. Families are welcome to come, contribute ideas, and work alongside us. Your input on what should be added to the space matters to us.
We cannot wait to show you what this space becomes.
