Little Hands, Big Smiles: Our Pizza-Making Cooking Class

There is something magical about watching a child realize they made their own food.

On Tuesday, April 14th, our children got to do just that. They made their own pizzas from scratch, and the pride and joy on their faces as they built each one was a reminder of why hands-on learning matters so much.

Cooking with children is not just a fun activity. Every step carries real learning. Spreading sauce builds fine motor control and spatial awareness. Choosing and placing toppings is a lesson in decision-making and creative expression. Watching the pizza transform in the oven opens up conversations about heat, change, and cause and effect. And sharing what they made with their friends? That is community.

Our cooking classes are a beloved part of the Rise Above experience because they connect children to the real world in a way that worksheets simply cannot. Children are capable. They can do real things. And when we give them the opportunity to prove it, they rise to the occasion every time.

We cannot wait to see what comes out of the kitchen next.
