I Am an Artist at Rise Above

This month, children at Rise Above are exploring the question of what it means to be an artist through our I Am an Artist project.

Throughout January, children will engage in meaningful discussions about creativity and expression. They will learn that artists use many different tools, materials, and forms to share ideas and tell stories. Art is not limited to paint and paper. It can be found in music, movement, food, and the spaces we build.

As part of this project, children will:

  • Talk about what it means to be an artist and how creativity shows up in everyday life
  • Learn about famous painters and explore their techniques through hands-on experiences
  • Discover the art of cooking and how food connects to culture and creativity
  • Explore music and dance from different cultures as forms of artistic expression
  • In some programs, learn about architecture and buildings as another way artists shape the world

This project supports curiosity, cultural awareness, and creative thinking. Children are encouraged to ask questions, try new materials, and express themselves in ways that feel meaningful to them.

I Am an Artist reflects our commitment to honoring children as capable learners and creators. We look forward to sharing moments from this work with our families throughout the month.
